Chronic knee pain
Chronic knee pain can be treated
Chronic knee pain has many causes, and the first step is making a diagnosis. Depending on the cause, we offer a range of treatments that may help:
Steroid injections
Commonly used, steroid injections can provide short term pain relief in a variety of painful knee conditions
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
PRP is a safe form of injectable therapy that can provide long term pain relief in a variety of painful knee conditions. You can read more here
Genicular nerve blocks and genicular nerve ablation
The genicular nerves transmit pain signals from the knee. By blocking these nerves with local anaesthetic, or with an electrical current (ablation), chronic knee pain can be relieved in many patients.
We are one of the few clinics in New Zealand able to offer this relatively new and minimally invasive treatment.
Conditions that can be treated with genicular nerve blocks or ablation:
- Chronic knee pain caused by osteoarthritis
- Patients with pain after total or partial knee replacement (around 15% of people undergoing knee replacements are left with chronic knee pain)
- Patients with chronic knee pain who are not surgical candidates
Why not come to Christchurch for treatment? We treat patients from across New Zealand.
