Iain graduated from Otago University in 1990 (with Distinction), and began life in General Practice. Over the years he completed further post graduate qualifications in Sports and Musculoskeletal Medicine (also with Distinction), working in a range of rehabilitation, pain management and musculoskeletal medicine settings, before successfully completing Specialist training as a Musculoskeletal Medicine Physician.
He most recently completed a Masters in Health Science endorsed in pain and pain management, also awarded with distinction.
He currently works as Clinical Lead for the DHB Community Musculoskeletal Medicine Service, as well as in Private Practice. He travels regularly to Australia where he tutors Doctors and allied Health Professionals from around the world in point of care ultrasound.
He is one of a handful of Doctors in New Zealand holding the Certificate in Clinician Performed Ultrasound (through the Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine). This is only awarded to clinicians who demonstrate a commitment to ongoing training and competence in Ultrasound.
Clinical interests include interventions in pain management, point of care ultrasound, and acute and chronic musculoskeletal problems in adults, particularly spinal pain.
